Can’t sleep, up listening to 311….
Lately I’ve been in a sort of a mood, don’t know what else to call it. I was going to say “depressed” but I’m not sure that’s even it. Just feel like I need a break. I guess I better get used to this s— b/c it seems like my scans will be every 3 months or sooner if I have symptoms.
So I saw my radiation oncologist the other week and she is going to radiate my mid-lower back and possibly some ribs. Her plan is to do 10 treatments, Monday-Friday with w/e’s off. I have the planning CT on Tuesday 2/23 and hopefully she will have the plan ready to start on Monday 3/1 (or we can start any day of the week, just have to get 10 treatments).
The other news is I tentatively have vocal cord surgery on 3/22. They have to coordinate with another doctors schedule so that is the “tentative” part. This will be done under conscious sedation as an out-pt. It should only take like an hour and I need to be somewhat awake so I can talk and the doctor can confirm that the implant is in the correct place, and make adjustments if needed. For those that don’t know, my left vocal cord is paralyzed from cancer so my voice and breathing are strained. I’ve already had a temporary injection and my voice sounded great, only lasted 2-3 months. This is the next and final step. My doctor (and the other doctor involved, no idea for what) will cut a small incision in the front of my neck to get to my vocal cord. Then he will make an implant that will keep my left cord in the center so when I talk, the right one will meet that and my voice will be better. The surgery is called, medialization laryngoplasty, that is one term used. I’ll keep you all posted on my date. Fingers crossed it doesn’t change.
The weather has been so nice and we’ve been able to walk almost daily. That’s been really nice for my mental health. I cannot believe that next week is the last week of the month, then March, crazy!
March schedule:
3/1: Hoping radiation starts
3/4: Video call with oncology
3/5: Labs and treatment
3/7: First Covid vaccine
3/19: Eye doctor
3/22: Vocal cord surgery (hopefully)

Hi Jen – You’ve got a lot going on there but all good stuff. Prayers that all will go well with the implant. Keep walking in the beautiful weather. Great way to lift your spirits. I’m sure you’ve heard the snow is building up in KofP. The first storm was beautiful and everything was shut down. After that, it just becomes a nuisance! The first quarter of 2021 will be over before we know it. Looking forward to Spring! Always thinking about you and sending good vibes. Love ya, Jen.
